Research on application of low temperature curing plastic powder coating on aluminum wheel hub

In order to verify the feasibility of the application of low-temperature powder on aluminum wheels, this paper selected low-temperature curing plastic powder coating and ordinary powder coating for comparison. First, the low-temperature curing mechanism of low-temperature powder was analyzed. Secondly, the baking characteristics of the two powders were tested and the baking curves were drawn. Thirdly, the mechanical properties (yield strength and reliability test) and paint film test (adhesion, gravel impact, water resistance, salt spray test and balance block paste test) are tested. Finally, the application and promotion of low temperature process in aluminum wheel production are analyzed and evaluated.



Powder coating is a rapidly developing field in the entire coating technology, because its VOC emissions are almost zero, the current environmental protection and green development background has driven its rapid development. Powder coatings have long been applied on automotive wheels, and their environmentally friendly construction and excellent coating performance have promoted their rapid development in the auto parts industry in recent years.



However, the curing conditions of ordinary powder coatings are mostly about 180 ° C, and some are even as high as 200 ° C, the time is about 25min, and there are shortcomings of high baking temperature and long time, leading to high energy consumption in practical applications, and too high curing temperature will also cause parts to become brittle. The automobile wheel is the main load-bearing part of the automobile, which not only requires sufficient mechanical strength, but also requires sufficient toughness to ensure the impact resistance. Reducing the curing temperature of powder coating can increase the toughness of wheel hub, reduce the production energy consumption of enterprises, and achieve the purpose of energy saving and environmental protection.

At present, energy-saving and environmentally friendly low-temperature curing powder has been used in large quantities in the field of home appliances, effectively reducing energy consumption, but the use of traditional low-temperature curing powder, leveling is not good, and the aluminum wheel coating convection and appearance requirements are higher, so it can not be sprayed on the aluminum wheel, so in the automotive aluminum wheel industry, low-temperature curing powder has not been used in large quantities. Therefore, if the aluminum wheel industry can use low-temperature curing powder, there will be great room for improvement in energy conservation and environmental protection.



To realize the promotion and application of low-temperature powder coating in the application of automobile wheels, the premise is that the wheel products produced under the low-temperature powder process meet the current performance standards of automobile parts. In this paper, on the basis of various performance tests (corrosion resistance, DSC differential calorimetry, powder infrared spectrum analysis, paint film compatibility, particle size test, resin content, resistance to gravel impact) of powder manufacturers for aluminum wheels special low temperature curing powder for Guangzhou Qingtian powder first developed. A series of feasibility studies were made on the application of low-temperature curing powder in aluminum wheel industry through a series of standard tests, such as mechanical properties of aluminum wheel hub, construction technology of low-temperature powder coating, coating film properties, coating balance block adhesion properties.
